SEC Newgate EU is a Brussels-based advocacy and communications consultancy with global reach as part of the award-winning SEC Newgate Group.

We are looking for a talented trainee with an understanding of the power of media relations and digital advocacy to work with our media team and our communications team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

On the media side:

  • Compile and update media lists.
  • Keep track of journalist comings and goings.
  • Follow the latest news developments in Europe (and globally) and conduct analysis and research.
  • Draft media background documents for client media outreach.
  • Monitor media coverage and compile clippings reports.

On the communications side:

  • Help implement digital and integrated communications plans across different policy areas, including chemicals, sustainability and mobility.
  • Support creative PR campaigns in line with client’s objectives;
  • Set up, maintain and enhance social and digital channels – including preparing editorial calendars, community management, digital organic and paid campaigns;
  • Draft quality materials including newsletters, speaking points and toolkits;
  • Conduct research and monitoring to support effective communications, including the management and monitoring and reporting tools.

 

Transversally:

  • Support in the organisation of events, marketing activities and business development.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A university degree in communication, public relations, or journalism.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English. Any other languages a plus.
  • Ideally some design, filming and video editing skills.
  • Excellent digital skills and robust knowledge of social networks.
  • Some previous professional communications experience is a plus.
  • Strong interest in the EU media landscape and a keen eye for news developments.
  • An understanding of the European public relations and digital landscape.
  • Excellent computer skills and a basic understanding of photo and digital editing tools (e.g. Adobe Suite, Canva).
  • Good organisational and project management skills.
  • Self-starter, being able to work autonomously and in teams, with flexibility, in a fast-paced environment.
