We are looking for a Head of Media Relations to lead our dedicated media team which is known for generating news coverage across Europe as well as for our award-winning #BrusselsCalling event series with journalists.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Head of our Media Relations team, you will play a key role in shaping strategic media engagement for clients across a wide range of sectors, delivering strategic counsel and driving business growth. More specifically, you will:

  • Lead and manage EU media relations campaigns for clients.
  • Provide strategic advice for clients at the most senior level on media positioning, crisis communication and reputation management.
  • Craft high-quality media materials, including messaging frameworks, pitches, press releases, and op-eds.
  • Secure meaningful media opportunities through proactive outreach and journalist engagement.
  • Organise and oversee press events, interviews, background briefings, and media roundtables.
  • Maintain and grow network of EU and international journalists.
  • Monitor media developments and trends to provide timely insights and guidance to clients and team members.
  • Drive business development at a senior level by strengthening relationships with existing clients, identifying growth opportunities, and contributing to pitch strategy and delivery.
  • Mentor and support a team of consultants, fostering collaboration and professional growth;
  • Develop and implement marketing initiatives to promote SEC Newgate EU’s brand and services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 15 to 20 years’ experience in media relations or journalism, in senior strategic leadership roles, preferably in consultancy setting.
  • Deep expertise in the European media landscape and EU policy environment.
  • Proven ability to distil complex issues into clear, compelling media narratives.
  • Established network of senior journalists and media stakeholders in Brussels with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Commercial mindset with a client-centric approach and business development acumen.
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills in English; any other languages is a plus.
  • Proven expertise in people management, with a track record of leading, inspiring, mentoring and developing teams of consultants.
  • Self-starter with a strategic vision, creativity, and the ability to deliver under pressure.
